У данного типа воскотопки сырье, загруженное в барабан воскотопки (сушь, или рамки с сушью) прогревается паром, воск в сырье растапливается в жидкость, под действием центробежной силы процеживается через отверстия в стенках барабана и выбрасывается на стенку бака. Твердые частицы суши при этом задерживаются в барабане. Далее воск стекает по стенке бака вниз и с каплями сконденсированного пара выходит через сливной кран в приемный сосуд, где застывает пластом поверх воды.
